The beautiful gardens at Narborough Hall, in Norfolk
The sweetest picture ever made for a royal engagement - Princess Irene of Hesse and Prince Heinrich of Prussia.
Irene didn’t tell to Queen Victoria her intend to marry Heinrich, knowing the Queen would have disproved the union. After she knew they were getting married Queen Victoria called Irene “naughty” for breaking her word not to become engaged to Henry. Henry meanwhile had risked the wrath of those in Berlin by attending his aunt Beatrice’s wedding to Prince Henry of Battenberg where Irene was one of the bridesmaids. The Hohenzollerns didn’t regard the Battenbergs as sufficiently royal. The happily couple were married on 24th May 1888.
